How to Make a Folding Cedar Lawn Chair

Ever wonder why sometimes you cannot sleep well? Getting a good night sleep is very important and essential to be able to function effectively and productively. And one factor why it is sometimes hard for us to reach dreamland is because of not being comfortable with the bed we are sleeping in. And if that’s the case, then you may need to replace your old one.

I know buying a new bed can be pricey. Thus, this article will help you on how to have a new sleeping nook without spending too much for it, because we will be showing you how to build a simple bed. Yes, simple but durable and most importantly, comfortable. And after this, I guarantee you will be sleeping soundly like a baby.

Items Needed for this Project

To complete this tutorial you will need these following materials:

  • Wood

This simple bed will be made of 100 percent wood. So we will be using a great deal of it in which it will be made into different cuts.

  • Wood Glue

To connect the pieces together, a strong wood glue is needed to hold the wood together tightly

  • Sandpaper

This is used with the sander to make sure that woods are cut and prepared smoothly and evenly.

  • Paint or Stain

While some prefers the wood and rustic look of the wood, others like to paint it with something to match the room’s theme or something colorful especially for the kids. I prefer applying the stain though.

These are the following tools you need to prepare:

  • Saw
  • Drill
  • Sander
  • Planer
  • Clamp
  • Tape Measure

While it is easier to just buy one at the store, knowing how to build your own bed has some perks. Aside from the fact that it can be an added clause in your resume, you will have absolute control of what you want for the final output and is more economical.

At this point, I know you are already very eager and excited to start, but wait, there is more. Before we gear ourselves for battle and get busy, we need to get hold of these pro tips to keep us safe and provide some additional information to make our work more efficient and timely.

  • Make sure to remove all the checks, warp and shrinkage on the wood

These things are unavoidable as even with buying new set of lumber on the store, there may be some small cracks you will see here and there. Be sure to be keen in checking it out. And make sure to take it off otherwise it will eventually spread out on the entire piece and ruin the whole thing. I’m sure you don’t want that to happen too.

  • Find durable piece of wood

There a lot of variety of wood you can use for this, at the end whichever kind of wood you choose, find the solid and high quality type.

  • Be mindful of the size

Ensure to take the right measurement that will fit for you, for your child or for whom the bed is for. You may need to put additional feet in addition to your height, or make it bigger for kids as they grow up fast, you can’t imagine what difference a year makes.

  • Get hold of your protective and safety gears too, as we will be working with different power tools and is going to be a long day of work:
  • Safety Glasses
  • Gloves
  • Ear Protection

  • Beams for the bed frame
  • Side rails

We will be making these parts individually first and assemble as we progress.

- Use the different power tools to make sure that surface is smooth and even.

- Drill holes and shape ends for attaching the beams for the frames later on.

- When using glue to attach pieces of wood, place it in a clamp to secure it tightly.

Step 2: Stain the finished pieces

Once all wood cuts are smoothened, lay all the pieces in one area. Apply the stain before assembling each piece together. You may apply couple of coats for better polish.

Step 3: Assemble the bed

Assemble the pieces together to form the bed including the surface of the frame that was adjusted to fit to size. You may need to use the mallet to tighten when attaching the pieces together.

Final product should look like this

Add a mattress and the bed is ready to sleep in. Say bye to sleepless nights and say hello to a warm bed and sound sleep.
